A New Civic Core.
The new primary school is conceived as a catalyst for a renewed urban and social centrality, shaping an inclusive and clearly identifiable place for the community. Set within its site, the project operates as an act of urban and landscape stitching, re-establishing both physical and programmatic continuity with the existing secondary school and the future Generations Park. This continuity is articulated through an integrated system of public, educational, and civic spaces, blurring conventional boundaries between learning environments and collective life. At the core of the proposal lies a lightweight, architecturally expressive canopy, which defines both the environmental and spatial logic of the intervention. Functioning as a bioclimatic device, it provides solar protection during the summer months and shelter from rainfall, enhancing the usability and comfort of open and semi-open areas. Simultaneously, it acts as a unifying infrastructural element, connecting the different programmatic components of the complex—school, gymnasium, library, and open-air auditorium—into a cohesive spatial framework. More than a protective layer, the canopy establishes a recognizable architectural figure, lending the project a strong civic identity and reinforcing its role as a new public landmark for the city.
