The competition area, known as ‘Barigau,’ represents the most significant open space in the village for landscape and historical-cultural reasons. The driving idea of the project is to create a new agora, in this case, in the negative, given the terrain, with all its punctual architectural elements that effectively constitute a true organism for society. In ancient times, it represented the hub of the city, of commercial and social activities, and this is what the project seeks to restore to Ulassai, its center, and the connection with tradition and the past. A true natural hypogeal amphitheater is created thanks to the morphological suggestion. Another sign located right in the heart of the field is the presence of this grid, determined only by a different treatment of the green, left as a synergistic garden, wild grass. This space allows the square to assume numerous shapes and functions depending on the required use, thanks to the simple action of mowing the grass in these squares. The field thus becomes a true contemporary open-air museum with its paths and spontaneity, a defining element of the project.
